Day 2 - trekking inside Madhumalai
We went for a trek on Wednesday morning. After tea a jeep took us to the starting point. We had a guide with us - his name was Kurvi uncle (kurvi means 'bird'). He had got a telescope with him. We started our trek. We were walking and suddenly kurvi uncle stopped.
There was a bamboo groove near us and in the groove was a female elephant. We very quietly passed. We went on walking.
On our way way we did bird watching. The bird of the day was lorikeet - The smallest parakeet in India. It was upside down on a branch. It looked very cute.
We soon finished our trek. Now we had to go back. We took a different route. We walked for some tie. And we stopped - this time a mamma elephant and a baby elephant was there. We took another route. And again we stopped. This time it was a Tusker behind the bamboo groove. We again took a different route. On this route we had to cross a river. We crossed the river. It was fun. The water was cold.
Then we walked and finally reached the road. The jeep came and picked us up. What a relief! (from elephants :-)
Note: Kurvi Kuttappam is a great person to know - he has immense knowledge of jungles, animals and birds. Great guide. He charged us (four people) Rs1200/- for a trek of 3 hours including jeep. Contact him on 094423-48658 if you are planning a trip to madhumalai.
