Projects Based learning

Projects based learning:  (see list of projects on the right)
What is PBL? - simply put

1. When you are trying to DO what you want to - say make a scare crow. Hence to us, the REAL life becomes the basis of decidin a project.
2. While doing you end up using a multitude of mediums
3. More importantly, you explore, concepts from a cross section of discipline or subjects or multiple intelligences (like geography, maths, or music or interpersonal etc).
4. It is open ended - the scope is limited by one's fantasy, fun and fortitude.

From Asawari's point of view(child)

  • The projects are decided by Asawari.
  • Projects do not finish - they just start and we keep visiting them.
  • We are constantly exploring and learning.

Approach - How we do?

  • We are not following any curriculum - that means there is no limit to the child can what the child can learn.
  • Every project starts with MIND MAP - what all we want to do. Key Guiding Questions are the beginning of any projects
  • We try to integrate various subjects in the projects - maths, English, science etc. So we do not study subjects separately.
  • We are using various books as text books  - like NCERT book for maths. But again these books are either for reference or maybe for practice or making concepts concrete.
  • We try to diverse mediums, again guided by interest and whats happeneing around.

Every project we are doing you will find loads of questions related to that topic - and the questions are based on Bloom Taxonomy to expand thinking skills. The topics are chosen by her so we go by her choice. What and how she wants to explore the topic is also by her choice.

For example, to explore Gandhiji, first she saw "Gandhi" movie. Then she was more interested in knowing his childhood. To learn from Gandhiji's childhood - she read a story about his childhood. Finally she decided to make a mural on that story. Further she to express emotions she wrote a letter to Gandhiji from her mother.
