What is Home Schooling
What is Home Schooling?
- Is it to understand child and move as per her need?
- Is it to look for Meaningful purpose of education?
- Is it covering a Syllabus?
What we think
Some of us who are home schooling currently (in Bangalore) their child/ children feels that it is the TRUST you need to have in child that he/ she can learn. Allow the child to decide and the child will take his/ her responsibility. Chetna, Rama, Ray and us (aditi-ratnesh) who are home schooling our kids unanimously have experienced that "The child takes the responsibility of his/ her learning".
- Understand What does the child enjoys? How does she learns?
- There is no fixed method of Home schooling - I guess if we have fixed method than the purpose is defeated. The fact we are doing home schooling leads to designing learning around that particular child not around the social demand. This social demand also includes parents demand.
- As David and Lauralee says it is important to understand child's learning style.
- As Satish says where is the need to TEACH - they will learn - you need to leave them RAW without your acceptance - they will bloom naturally - that is the essence of home schooling.
As in case of Chetana or Srinivas or Rama - the child was looking for a place where the child can move independently as per his/ her needs. In our case (aditi-ratnesh) we were looking for a meaningful learning not exam driven learning - we exposed the child to the another way of learning (home schooling) and she enjoyed and moved to home schooling.
You need to define of purpose of Home schooling? What different are you looking for from the current education system? If the system is not providing you will home schooling give you that?
- The syllabus, the child's desire to learn and 10th board falls in place if you are really CLEAR what you want?
- Finally the decision has to be taken by you. There is nobody who can GUARANTEE you any SUCCESS - Home schoolers have taken the decision based on their NEEDS and they are pretty clear about their needs - that they want CHILD SENSITIVE learning and the standard education system is not providing so instead of cribbing about the system and still going ahead with the system - chuck the system and make our own system. You need to commit whole hearted. If it fails for you look for options/ solutions and move ahead and if it is successful celebrate :)
