SMART GENIE SESSION--TATA SHERWOOD--Trupti
Session 4.
Today was our session on music. We played "freeze" with music and the kids loved it. They were almost shocked to see me dance. Then we had a small round of "interviews" about what kind of a musical instrument the partner likes and which part of the body is used to play it. Then, we delved a bit into rhythm, tried to clap our hands to the rhythm of songs being played and so on.
Today I was again surprised to hear all kinds of creative responses from the kids. Also, midway through the session, a girl asked me when the next batch of geniekids would begin after this one gets over. I saw them enjoying the music, relaxing with it and also getting hyper with it. We had a good time today , more so as the tape recorder was working.
We also played the statue game where the kids sang songs and we had to freeze when it was over and whoever moved got a chance to sing next. I could see some of them deliberately moving so as to get a chance to sing.
We also made our own musical instruments with paper cups, beans, and paper and another one by stretching rubberbands on some boxes and junk toys. Kids loved the sound and said it sounded like the guitar.
Today I had carried material for an extra activity too, as I felt my group would be interested in making something apaprt from the music activity. So, we made bracelets with shapes and the kids patiently took turns to use the punch. They wore their bracelets when they went home and even the boys were happy with the bracelets.
During reflection, most of them said they liked the musical instruments we made as well as the bracelets. They also remembered things from the previous session. One kid specifically told me he liked meditation because of the music.
One of the kids was wearing a shirt on which she had made a reindeer with hand and foot prints. All of them wanted to know if we could do something like that here too and even told me what all they would like to make, for e.g. an old man where they would have to use a dark coloured sheet and white paint, a santa, a flower, a butterfly and so on.
I am now thinking how to incorporate this demand in the coming sessions….
