25th August 2007, Cute Cubs 5-6 yrs, Party Plans...

Today we started with homes of animals. Drew pictures and found the shapes of the animal homes. We found that most of the animal homes were circular, semi-circular or triangular in shape. Then we did some more planning on our party list and we came up with interesting ideas like making balloons with leaves, having orange juice, fruit and vegetable salad. I wonder how they would have cut all those salads….Some wanted to make milkshakes using battery operated mixie..?! Then we had activities relating to responsible, caring and trusting Genies, which showed total involvement from the kids.

Geetha aunty - 7 & 8 yrs -25 th Aug - Plastic magic

Today's session started with interesting games on observation and creativity. Children were able to build up human sculptures like a table, chair, scorpion, ladder, box, mixer, and many more. they liked it so much that they formed the sculptures within secondsand didn't give us time to think and call out a thing  which has to be formed. This was the stimulation for the activity  the "plastic magic".Children were given only the plastic containers and a few plastic bottles and were asked to create anything out of them, in the sand pit for the other kids to play. Children jumped into the activity with a lot of energy and enthu and really did create wonderful games like hanging pattern maker, tossing the ring, ring the marked spot and get certain points, aiming game, dropping an object (a stone) through different obstacles and win some points.
Another day where all of us had a great fun.

Nehal auntie:3 and 4 yrs old:Best out of waste: 25/08/2007

Today as soon as Genies entered in the class
they were eager to inform status of their
plants, that we planted in the last session
and which they took home.

Today's session was about 'Recycling'.
First our plan was to discuss the concept of
a cycle, and then discuss the concept of Recycling.
In the discussion about the cycle, genies came
out with examples of bicycle, fan etc.

In the second part of activities, I had arranged
for a slide show about Recycling. But before
showing it, I gave them little hint about it in
the form of an interactive story. It helped them
a lot while watching the slide-show.

After the break we recycled newspaper in paper bags.
Genies were so amused that they can use this paper-bags
in their day-to-day life.

Nehal Auntie: 3 and 4 yrs old: Friends of the nature: 18/08/07

Today was the 2nd session about "Nature Activity".
Today we planted pulses. Genies were very excited
to plant seeds.

We all had a inter-active story round.
During the story round Genies suggested that we need
to get certain extra things like a small shovel, bowl etc.
After that I made up a rhyme and used that to explain
them procedure of planting seeds.

As stimulation I asked Genies what they themselves required
for their own growth. They responded that we want healthy
food and clean water for growth. We related this to how we
can take care of plants.

After the break we planted seeds and we discussed which is
the best place to put the pots of the plants such that it is
most suitable for plant's growth.

This activity helped us to focus on strength of becoming
"Caring Genie" and be responsible for plants.

Nehal

Nehal Auntie:3 and 4 yrs old: Know your feelings and emotions : 11 August 2007

Today's session was about "Emotions". The plan was to
make puppets of different expressions and create some
new stories.

During the activity of making puppets they faced an
issue. They could not stick icecream stick using glue.
That issue gave them chance to identify the problem
and discuss the solution. Instead of glue they used
fevicol and tape. At last puppet was ready.

They also made different creatures, cartoon characters and
narrated stories.

komala aunty - 8 to 13 yrs - 18 Aug - Garbage garbage everywhere !

Today we went on a walk out side geniekids. We had to sensitize ourselves on the environment we live in. what i see, hear, smell around me. The children were all stimulated on this . They had their senses opened on the walk. When we came back, one thing that had hit them most was the garbage. They smelt , saw, felt garbage around them. They enacted the same scene in the class as to how it feels to have garbage around you. One child could take it no more and started to pick up the garbage lying around. Everyone started  following the same ....

Even their 'list' was made in drawings!! The other team wanted Dhoom 2 music! Later we imagined if we were living in stoneage and wanted to have a similar party what would our list be. The cake would be made of fruits and the drinks would be water and lemonade!! Sandhya Aunty, Cute Cubs, 11th August 07, Now and then...

We tried to compare the things that we use today to the things people used long long ago. Like what wakes us up in the morning? What do we use to brush, have bath etc? Where and how do we learn? We made a chart of our learning by drawing pictures. While some children were not into the activity and they were drawing pictures of their own interest, some children were really thinking hard and came up with very realistic and interesting ideas. Then we made some toys, animals etc using clay. Some children used clay for the first time and did not like putting their hands in the clay……

VIDYA AUNTY 3 & 4 YEARS, WHY SHOULD I CARE?

Starting on exposure to nature and environment which is the base for a project down the line.  Children were most excited to plant potted plants and seeds.  They were explained about caring for nature and being responsible in nurturing the plants.  Activities apart, I saw all the best traits in today's session – team work – partnering and doing things, responsibility – keeping the place clean and tidy without my saying so, caring – for the child who cried to come to class, sharing – for the first time their tidbits which me and each other – all in all, ended on a high note.

Nehal aunty: 3 and 4 yrs old: "Can anybody make sun"?: 4/08/07

The theme of today's session was"natural or man mad"?
The session started with a game where in Genies
made one single tower using building-blocks.
This was just warm-up for the activities that
were to follow.

In the stimulation round we played a game "Fire in
the mountain". In this game they were stimulated
by questions such as "Can anyone make the sun?".
To this particular question, Genies related 'making'
sun with 'drawing' sun. Hence, they agreed that
'we' can make sun. So I continued this discussion
further by asking whether they have ever seen a
factory that makes sun. Then they understood my point
and on their own they concluded that sun is "natural".

After the break, we played a game where in we passed
around a dice with pictures of natural and artificial
things on its sides and let Genies distinguish between
the two. Similarly, in the next game we passed around a
book with natural and artificial pictures, and let Genies
distinguish between the two.
In the last activity, Genies were given option to
either (a) choose and cut pictures of natural and
artificial things from news-papers/magazines – and make
a collage (b) draw pictures of natural/artificial things
from their imagination. I got surprized because 3 yrs old
also very exited to draw their imaginative drawiing.

That was the end of the day.

Today while doing an activity with small balls, we discovered and displayed many qualities like, getting innovative ideas on how to get the balls under the cupboard, helping and working together towards the goal ie. Get all the balls out. We discovered and made many patterns from things in the classroom. We also used our imagination to describe how else a leaf looks like? Children were really good at it. Later we wrote thank you notes to our friends in the class who helped us today, which involved getting to know the names and the spelling of the names, of our classmates.

komala aunty - 8 to 13 yrs - 4 Aug- Co-opertion

Todays Session was all about listening . Role of listening in co-operation.
Played a game in which we made a musical concert with different sounds from
our hands in teams without talking to each other. The object was for each
group to get itself coordinated into something that sounds good without
talking to the other member of the group. In order to accomplish this they
had to listen to what each other is doing and adjust accordingly. Was fun
and few groups really liked doing it . They were trying to rope in everyone
. Later we had to make a kindness tree through co-operation which will
yield fruits of different strengths which can be picked by children or
given to children . Everyone had to work together to build up that tree.
The children initially could not get everyones co-operation. They took a
step back decided who is doing what and how and then went ahead and did it .
They were really thrilled to write their experiences in their journals .
