Nature Venture
How can a small outing to the park bring out the creativity….analysis…decision-making etc?
Read on….
We went to the park and collected leaves, sticks, fruits etc for our story. One of the kids brought a dried long branch of a tree and we decided to make it into a tree. The kids decided to first glue the leaves to it and when they kept falling, they decided to stick them with tape. Then they stuck a leaf in between the smaller branches and made it into a nest and kept some small dried fruits as eggs. Then they looked around for a bird and when they couldn’t find anything from their basket which looked like a bird, one girl decided to draw a bird and stuck it to the nest. Another boy wanted to stick a small dried out coconut to the tree…and he tried all means….glue..tape…string…finally decided it was too heavy for the tree. One girl drew a family of lions and stuck it to the tree saying a family of lions lived on the tree….which started a volley of questions like..
How can Lions live on tree?
Are they birds?
Only birds can live on trees.
My Lions lived under the tree.
Lions live in cave.
Make a cave on the tree…

Creative Story
On 10th February we explored story telling by using some junk material, sand toys, fruits and vegetables. After making stories using picture cards, the kids divided themselves into 2 teams of three and took the material which interested them. They were asked to explore the material and then decide how to use them in their story. While exploring, one of the teams tore a big card-board box from one side.
They all tried various ways to fix the box, which happened to be an important part in their story. They tried to stick it with glue, tie it with dupatta and even used a string.
Finally they decided to change the story and use the box as a train!
Then they used it as a building construction site!
They even used it as a hut!!!
What a fantastic example of teamwork, creativity, patience and perseverance from the whole group!!!!
We also explored colors by using the 3 basic colors, Red, Yellow and Blue. We had fun making green, brown, black, purple, orange etc from the basic colors.
Kudos Kittens…….

Sweet Stories!!
On 20th of January we continued our stories only this time we used sand and water. The sand toys were divided among the 4 teams. Two teams were given sand trays and the other two got water trays and they had to make stories. After sometime they had to exchange their trays and explore stories in the other medium. We had a great reflection round on the use of different mediums and the changes it made to their stories.
I was told they had a very exciting session with Ashwini Aunty on 27th of January.
On 3rd February we explored story telling by using picture cards. Children picked up a few cards and tried to make stories around those characters. Then we tried drawing any story known to us or draw and make your own story. Then we made background of our story on a paper and made puppets of the main characters. This brought out the creativity and patience in all of us.
One girl made a background of lot of lollipops and made a puppet of a girl who went around and ate all the lollipops…..soooo…..sweet!!

Stories Galore!!
We heard the story of The Talking Cave again and decided to draw the story while listening to it. Some decided to draw along with me. Others decided to help me with the characters in the story. The outcome was much more focused listening. One child could even hum the song in the story!!
Before going into snack break we decided to write down the codes of snack time. Everybody together agreed upon 10-11 codes. I wrote them down and put it up for everybody to see and kids just applied/followed them with no reminders from me!!
After exploring the sand toys together I made 3 teams and divided the toys amongst them. The teams were given one sand tray each and were asked to make a story together or individually with the given set of toys. The stories were full of action and had lots of animals in them.
One kid told an amazing story of two characters in desert who sold sand to make money and used the money to buy a fountain so that they can have bath…..

See and tell….
We played passing the book and whoever had the book when the music stopped had to pick an object from a basket and describe it in 3-4 sentences. Once we got the hang of it there was lot of team work, everybody was helping each other to describe the object.
We listened to the story of The Talking Cave and then the children told it back, it was great fun with many new animals getting into the story and the story had many different twist and turns than the original ….
We made things with clay and using them as characters built our own stories around them. The stories revolved around caterpillars, trains, spiders, balls etc. All except one child told stories. The boy who didn’t tell said, “Aunty I know the story but I don’t want to tell”.

Sensitive senses
We explored the feel of different objects….whether they were rough, smooth, hard, soft. Their color, shape, smell and sound.
We did painting but with a difference, we used straws to blow the paints on the paper….
We told rhymes and remembered the rhymes told by others. We ended the session by making greeting cards for the New Year….
Wish You All A Merry Christmas!!!
&
A Very Happy New Year 2007!!!
