Why expresso ?
To experience word genie and logic genie in me.
What is expresso?
To experience word genie through listening, doing story, playing around phonemic sound, doing activity in math book according to instruction given in the math book.
It is like an word train of five boogies - one story, two phonemic awareness , one labeling along with one math boogie.
Children experience the journey of word genie by moving between five boogies.
Who Joins
Children who are 3.5 and above are part of expresso
How does it happen?
- We do it from 12 O'clock to 1 O'clock including fruity time of 15 minutes.
- We have 4 theme for the five day
- Monday - We do story.
- Tuesday and Thursday - We do activity for phonemic awareness (sounds of the alphabets, words).
- Wednesday- Math's
- Friday - Labeling
- Faculty write theme of the day or sound of the day on the black board along with date of the day. Like an announcement.
- For writing and reading children use small folding table to keep their book and stationery material. Children and table ratio is 1:1.
- Children use the separate note book for expresso book for writing, drawing story etc. which named as expresso book.
- Children use the phonemics awareness printed sheets design by faculty for the phonemics awareness.
- Each child use maths book for the math activity. Ratio for child and math book is 1:1.
What all happens during expresso?
- On Monday - Children listen story either through aunty/children/recorded. They see story video on computer, They do story based on theme After doing these things children draw/write story in their note book.
- Faculty helps children to write words, story when needed by writing either on black board or in her book.
- On Tuesday and Thursday - Children does phonemic awareness through playing game (word hopscotch), through singing, making rhyme words for the sounds of the alphabets. Children look for the alphabet of that sound around the class labeling, sentences in the book. For e.g. for sound /m/- draw or write word monkey , mango, mummy in the hopscotch grid and then play the game.
- Children use the phonemic sheet. They see the picture, talk about it, relate the sound comes in those picture word. They make story by connecting the picture.
- On Wednesday - Children use math's book to do the math's activity according to the instruction given in the book. For e.g. compare the height of picture and color the picture who is tall.
- Either faculty reads the instruction given in the math book or child reads by himself by connecting the sounds of the words.
- Children experience the math's activity through using "math tool box" in which different material (child friendly) are there according to size, shape, weight, numbers. Children compare, count, sort, group things from the tool box.
- As well as they experience the same math activity around them. For e.g. by comparing the height of the pencil, by counting things in the class etc.
- On Friday - Children talks about what they saw during field trip/cooking , faculty write those words in the labeling book, for e.g. at the dentist-children saw chair, light etc. Faculty/ child write those word on the labeling book with relating to the sounds comes the word.
- Children draw, write what they see, felt, during field trip/cooking in their note book. Children use faculty written matter on the labeling book as reference if needed.
- Overall - children moves around all the boogies through connecting link to each other.
