Journey Through A day In Khoj

PDF version

Hi Good Morning

Its time to go to KHOJ school.

As I come into the school at the door I see a table where a ball is kept and i can see a GOAL where I need to shoot the ball. Only this, Aunty tells me I can shoot the ball using only my ELBOW. I try few times and finally I am able to. I wait to watch how few others enjoy this and then I go up to my class. As I am going up I hear this week's song about clap my hands and listen to music.

After I keep my bags and all since I have little time I pick up a slate and draw my fav car.

Soon its time to go to SUNSHINE where the weekly song is being played and all are dancing.I join in the dancing. Some actions I can follow what Aunty is doing - some I can add from my own.

After the dance we all sit down and line by line sing the song (as a rhyme)

clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands

listen to the music - and - clap your hands

stamp your feet, stamp your feet, stamp your feet

listen to the music - and - stamp your feet

After singing as a rhyme we all hum th song without the words like

la-la-la  la-la-la

la-lla lallal la-la-la

After all the dancing, actions, rhymes and singing - we do meditation and sing Jan Gan man and salute.

Now we go back to our class in the ghuk ghuk gadi

In the class the aunty is reading a story book of how the animals are trying to build their house. As she is reading the story - she shows how the animals are using their hands in different ways.

After the story i need to choose a story book of my own - I choose the train story book with train going to different places. I also try to read few familiar words. After this its time to share my book with my friend. I show to my friend the blue engine while she shows from her book where a funny tiger is running behind a tiny bird.

After stories its time for weekly special. Aunty reminds us that on Monday we did Yoga, on Tuesday we did show and tell and Wednesday we did exploration - so today is the day - hurray - for role play.

Today we are playing the role of a carpenter and repair man. Lot of tools are kept and we all pick up tools and see how we use our hands to make things and repair things.

After the role play we are all hungry for or snacks. One child listening the words snack starts singing

While we are eating aunty asks to be aware of how we are using different finger to open our bags, open our box hold spoon or fork or hold the Dosa or ....

After the snack break its activity time

Would you all  like to do this activity.

In this activity we have to take some shapes and - you can choose out of the options given - here you can try out any one. In our class we would normally do ALL - but you can try any one here.

As you are doing it - be aware what all you  are thinking about. (keep shapes ready)

In activity time I see different children are focusing on different aspects of the activity. Like Vinay is counting all his circles, while Shalu wants all red coloured shapes to make her tree, while Jitu is trying to convince Meeta to give the square shape, Kiran is quietly on his own doing his car, while Vishal is singing some song over and over again and putting all the shapes in one long line - like a line of cars in a car factory...

After activity time we have fruiti time where i enjoy the sapota i brought from home.

Since it is Thursday - in expresso - aunty is marching with "/g/ for go and /g/ for goat - goat go, go goat. We play a game on /g/ (finding /g/ things pictures in a magazine and then pasting them in our note books. After the game we do our /g/ worksheet

After Expresso time we go for lunch with all aunties and didis. After lunch we get time till 1pm to play in the sand area all by ourselves and all the sand toys. We can also go inside to read books etc.

After lunch and play - its time for play shop. On Thursday in play shop we play team games. First game we play is by sitting and only using our fingers we have pass as many straws (without any falling) from one end of the room to another. We can only hold the straws between our first two fingers (no thumb). We also have to keep a score of how many we passed, how many we dropped and how many reached in the basket.

The second game is to - in team of three children - balance and carry a long stick (which aunty has made out of rolled newspaper) from one end of the room to another. So each child is holding a pencil - and the stick can rest only on the pencil. So we have to walk together so that teh stick does not fall. In our note books we again note down how many times we tried and how many times we would reach our goal.

Soon its time to go back home and while we waiting for our pick cards we once again sing the weekly song and make fun actions using only our finger.

My pick up card has come and bye friends time for me to go. BYeeeeeee.
