We believe that a child is a NATURAL LEARNER.  Since the child is a self learner, our endeavors are focused on enabling this learning process.

Twelve year old Asawari says,

“I want to spend more time on fractions and decimals.
I want to understand them completely and then move on”

As Shilpadhar, a parent, puts it, “I am not here to make my child a great painter or a scientist. My child will grow on her own accord, in her own way. All I want is a nourishing and vital environment.

Since learning has to be FOR life, learning should be FROM life. Learning that is driven primarily from real experiences and learning that celebrates and harnesses a child innate and voracious ability to learn. This ‘Life School’ concept is the basis for our vision.

Our view is that Education is something which would help children grow naturally into empowered beings who can think, lead and enjoy their own life. If we have to make "thinkers" then why are we running behind knowing - knowing right answers, knowing formulas, definitions, etc? These and other skills will come anyway when children are learning to learn. We believe that a child is a natural LEARNER - and the child proves this by learning at least mother tongue, host of abilities, and set of LIFE skills, by himself/herself, by the age of three (before we put them in school).

Since the child is a SELF learner then why are we forcing OUR ways of learning rather than letting them learn it through THEIR ways.
The child being a SELF learner also means that, he/she would not need external motivators such as peer pressure, exams, societal appreciation etc... to achieve their goals or make career choices.

So the learning @ Life School is about -

My Life (The CHILD LEAD school):
Life school is about the child’s life - both present and future. Instead of funneling children into popular careers, the life schools exposes the children to the wide range of choices available to the child - not just as career, but as way of life itself. In life School the child is given minimum structure, thereby the child experiences freedom with responsibility; child learns to accept consequences of his decisions and create opportunities where required. Thereby the child starts learning to be leader of his own life.

Learning FOR LIFE:
Since learning has to be FOR life, learning should be FROM life. Learning that is driven primarily from real experiences and learning that celebrates and harnesses a child innate and voracious ability to learn.

The purpose of education is to provide a platform for the child to understand life and live it effectively.

Life School addresses questions like - How can my education help me understand how to tend my garden, how to build relationships, how to live healthy, how to be develop a refined aesthetic sense, how to design more efficient systems, how to critically analyse and predict, how to be socially and politically responsible, and so on.

For example, most of us are in heterogeneous teams - both on the professional front as well as in our personal lives. To facilitate this Life School aligns itself with the outside world in terms of a mix of age, skills and thinking - all in one class. Working together leads to exploring each others strengths, learning from each other and accepting each other. The child thus learns to work in groups, to be dependent on, independent of and interdependent with peers, facilitators, parents, etc.

Learning FROM LIFE:
Experience and learn from the way the world works.
Experience how a gardener works by working with him & thereby learn about gardening, social skills, botany, nature and its balances, motor skills, analysis and evaluation, patience and perseverance by creating a garden.

Learning IN Life - Experience triggers learning, makes it meaningful  and helps in discovering and understanding the underlying concepts - so that the same can be applied elsewhere. For example: Kids experience what is "Buoyancy", ask questions about it, explore it and figure out the concept behind it. All this happen when they are designing their own "boat".
