What Participants say about sex education

PDF version

Here is what some participants say:

  • Eye Opener (Sex-Edu)

It was an eye-opener. I am happy i could attend it at the right time. Learned many small things which are imp. in big way. Yes, it was very interesting; and to the point. The interactive way /approach was very refreshing. Sex education is very important right from the beginning. The process is gradual. The Taboo related to sex education shall go. I think something to do with the word 'SEX' that we have some mental block. Must think of some creative name so it is accepted more openly :)

    Sheetal (parent)
  • Awareness

The session was wonderful. Such a complex topic handled very well keeping it simple :). Parents shared their experience and people learn from experience. I felt it was really a real life session, everyone was open to ideas, thoughts. I would say, it was really an eye opener. Gave me a direction to think and generated a awareness in my mind. I am sure, going forward I would be very comfortable with my child when I talk about sex education.

    Mr Rahul Pujari (father)
  • My Inhibitions

Session was thought provoking and made me think a lot about the topic and how I deal with it. It made me aware of my own inhibitions and how I am unconsciously passing that on to my children.

    Mrs Meena (mother)
  • easy to talk

'Talking' at home about sex education related topics to my kids and particularly by my kids has been progressing! Surprisingly whatever we openly talk has been taken very casually. No fuss is being made about it. It proves me so wrong, i was all so tense about it.- Manjusha.

  • Touchy

It was quite an useful seminar (Preparing Children Sexually). I could find out how little I know about talking to kids on this touchy subject. Although my wife & I wanted to attend this together, she couldn't join this due to some personal reasons. I shared with my wife about the session and she was quite interested too. Please convey my appreciation to Ms. Aditi.

    Veeraraghavan Giridhar (Motorola)
  • Aware

It made me aware of my own inhibitions and how I am unconsciously passing that on, although I discuss many other things.
I felt that it did not help me in "How" I deal with the questions / areas, it made me open up on what.
I feel something which is more "situations" scenes which can help us work through how we respond will be useful... That will help us in thinking through our responses and pushing us more.

  • Informative

The session was really wonderful and really very informative. I atleast know where to start and how to take it on with respect to sharing with children and parents.

Aditi was at her best as usual , no doubts about that.

Really informative. I myself could not figure out how I would answer to a question put forth by a child arising out of curiosity . Now I know I should not be giving " solutions at the top level, but nourish the root level. - Mahalakshmi

I wish to arrange for this seminar and Invite Aditi next year to do one workshop in Coimbatore. Such a program is unheard of in Coimbatore . So I want to make it happen.

Key learning - From where to start and how to present these issues to a child. I liked the words " LET YOU BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOUR CHILD " "Look it into you and your feelings"

" While talking these issues to children I would not segregate them girls and boys into a group, but talk to all of them. I appreciate that point . I would have never thought of. I will not feel embarrassed talking about it ( will have to work on it ). The workshop was 10/10. THANK YOU GENIE KIDS AND ADITI .

  • Sex education - unleashing

Session was so much of unlearning and understanding parental attitudes, beliefs and filters on sex. Session was also effective in bring out the anxieties that all parents have about how to tell the child about pubertal changes and sex.
Session was very interesting as as there was a lot of clarity in presentation and communication.
The key learning was about the unlearnig and looking freshly about the attitudes that we have about sex.
The specific challenges were definately taken care of. thye session was not only about WHAT TO but also about HOW TO.
Specific learning was there is no right age. My specific worry was is the child pyschologically aready and matured for it? The learning was earlier the better
before child starts forming its own ideas about sex which could be quite distraughted.
The basic requirement is to keep the communication channel going with out any embarrassment.
I have so far not put it into action but intend to do that with the basic anatomy of the human body which we normally do not talk about. I think it will help to naturally move on to the physiology or the functioning - how and why.

  • Sex education - Break the barrier

The session was well conducted. The information was concise but packed with information. Session was delivered in an interesting way. The key learning is that there is no set age barrier for a child to learn about sex education. Like any other type of knowledge, this too can be imparted at any age.
It helped me break my barriers. I used to think that the information is of an adult nature and so could be shared with children slowly as they grow up. But, this notion has been turned on its head. If you treat sex education like any other piece of information, then it becomes easier to deal with sex-related questions from children. - Suchi, Volunteer Dream a dream

  • Effective

I was struggling to deal with this topic. The workshop gave me an access to break my shell. After workshop, I am at peace. I got an access to be with daughter fully while watching TV. The most important thing I got from workshop is that this topic can be treated as normal as any other topic. Thank you for the insights.
    - Exercise of teaching body parts through toy... It was very effective.
    - Being open to concerns of parents
    - Facilitation of the workshop: Audience participated fully

You exceeded my expectations. Excellent work!!! I know the workshop is refined over a period of time and you people have put your heart in developing this.

  • Life Learning
The Saturday session was again a life alerting program for me and my family, Aditi. The program was precise, well focused and greatly informational. The best part was the intent 'To empower the parents to handle situations with the child and further enable us to empower the child that he/she is equipped to handle any situation in life". Again a Super program. May God give you the best in return for the efforts and intentions you alwyas bring forth. You people are a boon to the planet!

This was an extraordinary session for me. The presentation was lucid and very useful for new parents as well as for others, too. It generated a lot of questions in mind, and at the end we realized that we need a guidance instead of guiding child actually. I should attend any of these find of this workshop in future, too. Many thanks Genie-kids.

  • Insight

    By mail
The presentation was quite thought provoking. I feel within the duration of
1-2 hours the topic was aptly covered. Even though the questions I had were
not directly answered, with the insight that i now have, I think i can and
    should find the answers myself.
As always thank you for stirring my awareness
    Pradeep.

  • Participative

The session was really helpful in breaking my mindset. Though I have been none to be quite progressive, some parts of my beliefs are still hand-me-downs. What was great about the workshop was that I could use the information I had gained to help the children I come across at work and also children I meet and know personally outside of work. My elder sister has "hired" me to teach her children the things I learnt at the workshop. The best part of that is that my entire family will be sitting in on those discussions.
One of the mentor has also already initiated conversation with her mentee and it has gone very well. They will be going through the topics one by one over the next three months.
I liked the way it was delivered. The atmosphere to be open was set almost immediately.
The presentation was a good mix of visuals, role plays and information sharing. It was clear and participative.

    Hello Aditi

We should thank you for giving insight of a topic, which we hardly talk. You made us consious about the body parts which are there but we  hardly mension. Now we are aware that we should tell the fact and not to give fancy answers(about how I come from mummy's tummy?)

    Once again thanks.

What we need to do to become pregnant

Submitted by aditi on Tue, 11 Jan 2011.

One child asked

it will be good if we have more babies, we will get more money. She has lot of sisters(cousin n own) and few brothers(cousin) so, she is thinking we can have one brother. Yday she was asking mummy what you need to do to become pregnant?. I was like zapped and tried avoiding her saying your sister may fall hold her carefully.

Aditi wrote:

Tell her the truth

The truth is
When mummy papa loves each other and decide to make baby - the baby is made
The truth is also "as you become big you will know how babies are made?"
Also ask her what does she thinks - how new flowers are made? How does the fruits, veg come  ?
The truth is we need seed.
The truth is also - as you become big you will come to know how the seeds come in mummy's tummy ?
How does the seed go in the soil ? Someone puts it or come by pollination
Forget about the science of making baby only - talk about the science of making any things new ?
Not about making baby but the sleepless nights, responsibility, joy and many more thing are associated with the decision of making baby :)

Warm Regards

Aditi & Ratnesh
