Believe in youI am very very happy to know that you are extending the school. My wife and I often wished for this, so its dream come true for us. We have immensely benefitted from your parening classes. We have attended atleast 40 hours of seminars on parenting conducted by you. We are empowered to be parents. We have seen growth of our daughter (Bhavana) in 2 years of Khoj program. We are strong believers in your approach of teaching and learning. We would be interested to have our daughter study in this school - PrakashPrakash

In harmony
One of the very first taglines that I thought of for Harmony centre was Learning for Life or Life's Learning and I emphasise on real life projects and NOT student projects until everyone gets tired of me. :) Everything that you have said in the mail has a resonance with my idea of harmony centre. Even those who claim to want an alternative environment for their children still turn around and ask, will they be able to write and pass an IIT exam at the end of it??? I keep telling people that "as the means so the ends", and so if they want to go through an 'alternative' process but are looking at mainstream goals and again churning out clones, then they had better go to a mainstream school, because here whoever truly wants to go into IIT will go ahead and attempt it. However I also find it totally absurd when people start talking about employability while we are just thinking of a preschool! I mean the employability scene is changing so rapidly, even 10 years from now situations would be completely different, even if we say chalo let's go along with you for now and take this route of saying that this education process should directly lead to employment. - Priya,

For child - from child
Yes, we need to totally go by the child's need and yet have a system in place for us as a guideline. If I as a facilitator come in as to how will I make this module work for the child then somewhere I am passing on my tension, stress to the child. The whole basis of learning should be triggered of from the child for the child. -Komala

Stress Free
Thanks Aditi for this initiative in geniekids. I think the biggest
advantage of this system is stress less schooling for the child. I
personally never bothered to get grades and it was okay with my parents
if I was getting passing marks in my weak topic (History). I started
hating history not because I didn't like it. I started hating history
because of the way exams papers were set. There was need to remember all
the dates, names, and years. And I am still very poor in that. I
remember my father told me once, 'you choose what you want to study
after 10th board. Till then you will have to face history.' I don't
think same will be acceptable in todays acedemic oriented schools. Even
if, I as a parent I do not push my child, schools enviornment and peer
pressure may take my child into different direction. Thanks and Regards

self learningDuring our visits to Geniekids ( Suchi attended the seminar on Maths on a weekend, and I attended the Aarohi Lifeschool seminar last saturday. ), we have seen the same kind of commitment from you, and the confidence to see that you have done it over a period of time, with what we consider as success !So we definitely feel Life school will be able to fulfill our requirements for our child's learning and growth.
This last year, we have been searching for alternate education methods for our children. Especially for our eldest who is now 6 and has completed one year with a regular school. Some of the effects of such a regular school education cannot be ignored anymore.. Thinkings like the need for competitive assessment of self versus classmates - I am good / she is bad or vice-versa based on marks, based on remarks of the teacher or our own preferences as parents as we push her to complete her homework or prepare for exams.
Over the period, the only thing stopping us making a commitment to alternative education methods had been our own fear - how will we fit in to the society -- how will we answer in case of 'failure' of our child in such an environment ? etc..All these have been questions internal to me - which have now been resolved .. internally. There is a quiet knowing now about what needs to be done... One of them is to train ourselves as parents to support our children better - to rise above our beliefs, conditionings and provide an 'open' learning environment to our children..Venu and Suchitra -
Fascinating Journey
The way things are being thought out and planned for aarohi, i am sure it will be a fascinating journey for all those who are on the path of discovery (khoj) and are evolving themselves(aarohi) !! Cheers,

NIOS
received by mail
I have been receiving and following your mails with great interest. You've been doing a fantastic job and congrats for it.
Just incase you are not aware, the NIOS system is a sensible way to handle the 10th class and 12th class certificates while "education" and "learning" is being worked upon in a different way.

Fearless
One observer shared
Children were full of life. They were as fresh till the end as they came in the morning. They were learning by listening to each other. They were open to share from food to learnings.
It was ok to not know something or nothing. Children were expressing freely - had no inhibition in saying yes, or no or I do not know. Open communication between chidlren and faculty, no fear.
Children were very helpful to each other, if someone does not know, others were eager to share learning.
Children were being disciplined without getting the feel of discipline - using actions to get many things done. Faculty was firm, soft, clear and non-intimidating.Observer
