We do not have any database/ weblink of the info you have asked for. When we want for our own kids we either search on web or look in the newspaper, or ask friends And then go and meet them and understand. As a policy we do not "rate or judge" any other courses/ schools. Because every parent has a "different" scale of quality and expectations.
We plan to add the database on our site - But I guess it will take time
Training program for adult is conducted Online. See details http://www.geniekids.com/ttt-online-version
Rest all the programs are ONLY in Bangalore
As a policy we do not recommend any school. The reason - your idea of good school would be different my idea. It is best when you do research about the school yourself. Read our article "the best school" to guide you.
For anybody to work with Geneikids have to go though a four month long extensive training program called Train the trainer. During the training you are exposed to various ways of working with children with emphasis on

Most importantly the team that executes the program is the one who designs it. They bring deep understanding of the activity and flexibility in executing the same.
We also do monthly in-house training programs. Apart from that reading and research is the ethos of geniekids way of working. Unless we are continuously learning, how can we facilitate learning in others!

We do not punish. There is no need and we all know it is ineffective :-)
Our whole philosophy is based on respecting the child. Hence most of our strategies are based on empowering the child. Empowerment can be done through preparation, options, understanding feelings and making child responsible for managing their feelings, thoughts and actions, etc. The whole idea is to move with the child. Please read our discipline document.
We believe in "participation with experience" - hence do not organize any competitions. In fact any game which is competitive we convert that into cooperative game. We believe cooperation makes the environment more healthy while keeping the learning intact.

We accept the child as it is - we do not try to force our expectations onto them. However, the positive environment does encourage children in Geniekids to open up and discover the genie within them. And in our view the first and most important step in this positive environment is acceptance of child's current behavior and NOT trying to make him or her *more social*. The more we let them "be", the more the push themselves.

Holiday Program FAQ (34)
All the programs of Geniekids are OPEN. Although we do not claim to cater to any one specific area of child development of each child - the process ensures that the child gets exposure to VARIOUS aspects of child development.
- Leadership program is designed for 9yrs and above kids
- The "Discover Me" program is designed for 3 to 8 yrs old children -
For more clarification - you can call us or send us your phone we can call you and understand your perspective
Cost of any program is fairly subjective. We base it on the quality and depth of effort that we put before- during and after the program - on the contents and facilitation of the program. So what you pay is for extensive research and training and preparation etc of the design and facilitation of the program.
In one week the child is not expected to LEARN anything.\Holiday program are EXPOSURE programs - the intention is not to teach - but to expose the child and his eight intelligences.
For Activities - hope you have gone through this webpage
http://geniekids.com/holidayprog/Intelligence-camp
Additionally read on:
What kind of activities?
We can give you an example – we do not tell in advance the actual activities that we will be doing on each day. The main reason for not telling you the activities in advance is that while we plan the session in advance – this plan itself is very open and what we do and how we do is quite dependent on the group of children. This dynamic customization of the activities is what makes us different from everybody else.
· The idea is to appeal to the group's interest - rather than coming from a pre-fixed menu. Hence it makes sense that we tell you after the session, which activities were done and how were they done.
· Hence what we do is after the session we post a session write up - on a daily basis - so that you come to know exactly the activities that was finally done.
· The holiday program is to give a set of exciting and interesting exposures to children. There is no teaching - we use different kinds of mediums to appeal to different interests.
The holiday programs are primarily based on Theory of Multiple Intelligence and will expose the child's to all the eight intelligences. All activities are loaded with FUN and enjoyment. They will be based on music, language, books science, art, craft, numerical activities, kinesthetic and movement activities, clay, theater & drama, social activities etc.
Here is an example activity:
Suppose we start a telling a story and stop in between. Now we ask children to
finish the story as per their wish. Once they finish their story, we ask them to put up a small puppet show of "their" version of the story
- they can make puppets, make a set, add music, add themselves into the show, and so on....
Its all about exposure. While the basic structure may be same but the way activities are conducted are different - stimulation, energisers all are designed new. The child also responses to it differently at different levels. Every activity has different levels - if the child has done it once - the child is likely to do it now at a different level.
Holiday programs are for exposure and children to have fun. Hence the emphasis is on "expo sure" not on "evaluation" of kids.
Holiday programs are short duration. Since any feedback can only be based on sufficient observation - It is not fair for us to give any feedback about the child in such a short duration. We give feedback in our long term programs like Success Saturday or Khoj (preschool).

YES - we do. However we do not take children for field trips for the sake of field trips. The field trip is done when it is required by an activity (hence it does not have a prefixed periodicity. The field trip plays a specific role in the whole learning design and hence the kind and content of the field trip is purely driven by the activity.
We believe in "participation with experience" - hence do not organize any competitions. In fact any game which is competitive we convert that into cooperative game. We believe cooperation makes the environment more healthy while keeping the learning intact.

Kindly inform us. In most case we are able to make rapport with child. We may guide you to how to make this happen and any need your assistance in doing so. However realise that a child reluctance could be either due to small reasons (which can be easily taken care of) or due to external factors. In any case for us a child's reluctance is neither a judgment on our program nor on the child. Worst case we cancel the registration and refund the money.
We value every single feedback given to us. If we are not able to give time to you due to our involvement in the program – please send us a mail – we will surely respond. Or call us during working hours.

You can drop the child max half an hour BEFORE the start of the program (morning earliest 9:30, afternoon 2pm) and pick up within half and hour after the program (for morning prog max 1:30 and evening program max 6pm). Kindly follow these timings strictly. If you foresee an issue pl make alternate arrangements to get the child picked up.
No we do not - for us our program is not about acquiring a certain set of skills (which would require a certificate) - rather its about giving child meaningful exposure to learn from.
is NOT IMPORTANT. As an ideology of our organization we do not focus on carry homes. Your child is even free to not take what he has done or made in the class to home. Please do not judge the child or the program by what the child takes home. Whatever the child does in the session – the child does on his or her own. The whole idea of the program is to encourage child’s independent doing, efforts and judgment. Our programs are not designed to make children carry good looking stuff home. Our programs are designed to instill an attitude of can do, did it myself, my opinion matters, I am special, etc, in the child.
You inform us immediately through sms to 98450-45833. We
hope parents will be HONEST and make this request only if the child is actually
not well and also was otherwise all set to come. In this case we will try to
best compensate that week for the child. We are not making any promise – only
assuring you our best efforts in adjusting the child in a future week which is
not full – which means this adjustment will be purely based on availability.
Please note we cannot refund the amount for weeks missed if we are not informed
two days in advance.
Yes you can postpone or prepone (full week only), subject to availability in that age group, in that week, if informed alteast two days before the start of the registered week. - – which means by Friday for the following Monday. However, few sessions missed out of one week cannot be adjusted in some other week.
This can be done without any cancellation fee only if we are informed of the same
alteast two days before the start of the week – which means by Friday for the

email or call 25202510 or 41161575 or sms to 98450-45833. If informing through
email or sms – pl ensure that you receive acknowledgement from us. We will not
be able to refund money for the weeks the child is absent without information to
us.
We cannot compensate for any missing session. However, we do our best to
ensure that the child is not “lost” in terms of continuity and is able to sink
into the activities after an absent day.
Also you can check session report. The session write up is updated within 24 hours on the website. Please click on session write up under the program pages. Choose the program and group to see the writeup.

Only some snacks and a water bottle. Please do not send any material or
any toy with the child. Also ensure that the child wears simple daily
wear clothes – as they are bound to “dirty” their hands in colours, glue, clay
etc.
All activities are open ended - which means children can add, modify
and tailor the activity as per their interest. Also the facilitator is
armed with options - so that each child's interest can be taken care of.
Holiday programs are all about exposure. What your child will gain will
be exposure of all the eight intelligence in a enjoyable environment.
We can give you an example - though do not tell the actual activities
we will be doing on each day. That is told to you every day after the
session - through session writeup on our website.
The reason for not telling you the activities in advance is often we
come into the session with a "set" of activities and the actual
activity or the way an activity will be done will depend on the group.
The idea is to appeal to the group's interest - rather than coming from
a pre-fixed menu. Hence it makes sense that we tell you after the
session, which activities were done and how were they done.

After five years of working with children, parents and teachers, geniekids has full confidence in its program. Hence, we feel trial is not necessary. However, for some reason if you have to withdraw your child before or during the weeks registered for, registration amount is refunded on basis of weeks unattended. You need not give the reason for withdrawal, but you will need to inform us before the beginning of a week. We will not be able to refund money for the weeks the child does not come without information to us.
For each program, each week (Monday to Friday) is an independent, unique week with different activity. Children register in terms of number of weeks. We do not register for part week.
Geniekids does not provide any transport. Van service is provided by a third party arrangement. Hence you need to call Mr Devraj (on 94488-78294) and directly discuss your transport needs with him. Usually he should be able to provide you with a reasonably priced solution.
Kindly note that is a purely third part arrangement and geniekids is neither involved nor responsible for the transport service provided. However, we in past have found services of Mr Devraj fairy reliable and have not received any complains from any of the parents using his service. We recommend that you check out his van and driving and also, if you desire, speak to the parents using his services.
With one facilitator, each group upto 5 years consists of maximum of 12 children and for 6+ years maximum of 15 children.
The objective here is to expose the child - it is not a skill development program.
Each activity gives a meaningful exposure to the child in an enjoyable way.
Surely - Geniekids believes that greatest fun is when children are interested in what they are doing. So while we do not entertain your child, the activities and the process of learning followed by GenieKids is based on child enjoying the whole experience.

Life School (26)
A golden question - we salute who asked this question :). Yes after 14yrs of age whenever the child is ready can give board exams. The exams will be driven by the child not by the adult. Every child is ready mentally to give board exam at different times - so there is no rule that ALL the kids should appear for board exams just because they are 14 years old. We give time to prepare, we work with the child and every child will ready as per her comfort.
Aarohi is for the parents who are looking for "different goal" from education. For us Education is something which would help children grow naturally into empowered beings who can think, lead and enjoy their own life. Hence, the life school is not all about some "project based learning or Module design" or about any other method. It is "child based learning". The projects and module will be two of the tools - which will make learning meaningful to the child, to make it come from the child, not a means to make the child into learn what we want him to learn or to turn the child into somebody successful by what is perceived by the current system or to make the child join a particular college or profession.
We are not here to compare other systems - You choose Aarohi not for the projects and in depth learning but to make a meaningful learning for the life time. Aarohi is about " way of learning for life ". Or rather Aarohi is also about a way of life.
We empower the child to THINK so choosing what to learn is left to the child - what looks wrong to us may not look wrong to child. We make child THINK is that what child wants? How will that help you? Anything anyone does which is disturbing others or harming - we ask group to decide how they would like to take care of each other. Read our discipline http://geniekids.com/content/discipline
Lack of interest is not the measure of child's weakness - it is the weakness of system which is failing to make child interested in writing - so we work on us (process) not on the child. We make writing interesting for the child not work hard to make child interested in writing. Once the experience of writing is interesting for the child - the child will work on himself :). We work on life skills like decisions, responsibility, perseverance - read more http://geniekids.com/ss
ALso read about Interest at - http://geniekids.com/content/6-interest
For us each group will normally around 12 children extandable to max 15. One project facilitator will be with one such group. This has been our ratio in all other programs. And this give us space to work with each child and understand each child's needs. This does not include other module facilitator or support expert faculty.
Geniekids is not one or two people - but the group pf people. People who go through training (http://geniekids.com/ttt) are part of us. After the training we all go through vigorous experience of working with children in our various programs. Nobody is an employee of Geniekids but take up the assignments as per our interest and time. Once any one of us takes any assignment - we're completely into it - we all form Geniekids together. We care from different background - software to pharmacy to commerce - read more about some of us http://geniekids.com/aboutus
Yes it is very important to work in a team and adjust with others. At Aarohi you are ACCEPTING everybody, you are being accepted - so you learn to work with other not by adjusting but by "Accepting".
- Adjustment brings a lot of unrest in you, you feel either this is fair or unfair - or it takes you through stress that WHY do you have to adjust with others need?
- While ACCEPTANCE has no strings attached - "I work - you work - we work" we all are different and we all accept each other - I am at peace.
First if you think the world is competitive - then the world is competitive.
If you think world is NOT competitive - is rather cooperative and symbiotic - then world is beautiful.
At Arohi we do not go by what the world is, rather we choose how we want to live in this world - reiterating - Aarohi is a way of life.
Secondly: We beleive, competition with MYSELF is more important for my growth - not sure about the competition with others. Competition with others tells me HOW much I am better than other (or worse i am) - so I need others to compare :(. However, if I am competing with myself, I am constantly progressing - this competition is endless.
If I win a quiz because others did not know - How does this help me in my learning ?
If I win everyday with myself because I set harder target for me from my yesterday's level - I become lifelong learner.
I am not worried how much others know or do not know - I am learning ALWAYS. In the process I make others also learn. I share my learning, my resources - because i have no scare of failure. I help others also to learn because I am not jealous of others. Learn to work with others is one of the purpose of education at Aarohi.
If I win first in drawing competition because others decided (judge) - How about me judging myself - Do I all my life to be depended on others to tell me how good or bad I am compared to others?
- As I grow I compete with my colleagues - salary, my achievement (My collage mates are earning more or less than me)
- As I grow more - I compare my wealth, comfort with others ( How many cars or luxury I have - If I have more than you I am Happy - If I have less I want more)
- As I grow more - I compare my kids with others - (how good or bad my child is? What all he know MORE or LESS than others)
- As i grow more - I compare my success with other ( I am at this level compare to my colleague in my office)
- As I grow more - I compare my while life with others
- And As I grow more.the cycle continues. (How did well or bad I did in my life compared to others)
At Aarohi we strive on competing with myself only - I set my goal for me and when I achieve that I celebrate - when i do not achieve I reflect and set another target for myself.
http://geniekids.com/content/2-progress
First, the regular system itself has not guaranteed neither learning nor success.
Second, there is no need to compare - or any comparison is not fair to either systems - because the goal of both systems are DIFFERENT.
Third, We do not want children who are at par with anything (benchmarks) or anybody. We want children who are constantly learning, growing and evolving - the way they want to - it is determined by each child uniquely - rather then a formula or a standard that fits all.
Almost all the big cities have alternate schools - so you can approach that. We will work together. You can home school the child with the help of manual developed by us in next two years.
Few schools
http://geniekids.com/professionals/alternative-schools
At geniekids the FREEDOM comes with responsibility. You are free to choose but what you choose you are responsible for that. We have experinecd that when we do not push them to learn they push themselves to learn. We belive that they wants to learn and they are natural learners. In our experience kids live upto exptectaions - if you expect they will fail they will. If you expect they will Take thier resposnibilt - they will.
How the child is going to face the outside world after 9th. 10 th is a board year and other kids in other usual school would come with marks oriented approach toward the exam.? Getting marks will be equally important at this stage for a child coming from a life school background ?
Aarohi presents them the real world - so there is no question of adjustment. The kids at Aarohi will look at life without FEAR or FORCE. They will be thinkers and empowered to take decisions. We are not against marks - if they need to get high marks to move ahead in their professional life - we will train them. But the training will be THEM (child) driven and the willingness will come from them.
The format of most competitive exams (IIT-JEE for example) is different from the board exams in school - and for these the kids in regular school still need to prepare. Similarly the kids at Aarohi will be prepare for any exams they have to appear any time in their life.
Children do not need to be pushed into a system - rather they can be empowered and trained to flourish and win over a system requirement (for example board exams).
Well here is an opportunity for you to be completely part of the process of your child's learning - so make maximum out of it. We want you be active in the process so you understand the process and more important understand your child. The story of "animal school" is best example that without knowing our kids we are just pushing them into EVERYTHING.
- You can take up one or many modules to teach at the school - the module can run from 3 days to 10 days
- You can be a hunter for resource people
- You can take kids for field visits
- You can be part of research, documentation.
- You can just come and do project with kids
- You attend training sessions which empower you to BREAK your beliefs and helps in understanding the child
- You do not have YOU driven acceptance from the child as well as from the school
- You understand how your child is learning
- You do not compare your child, school, parents
We are not selling a "product" to you so we convince you that this approach will bring this kind of results - we are presenting you Alternate ways of education which is CHILD centric and holistic. We are training kids for LIFE not for passing exams. The basis of approach are thinkers like Gandhi, John holt, J Krishnamurthi, Vivennanad and so on.
Also realise that the way success is defined - no education system has been able to guarantee that - so the LIFE school is not a particular kind of success as the out put - in fact it is not about the success, but about a process.
We have listen to people who are believer of Alternate education - you too can have a look at http://www.alternativeeducationindia.net/ or http://geniekids.com/category/orgcategory/alternate-education
You can also pick a book from Sutradhar - Alternative Schooling in India - Sage Publictaion
For your reference a copy of the book is available in GK library also.
Kids at Aarohi are learning always. For example kids in KHOJ do not restrict their learning to A for Apple or D for Dog - they experience the letters everywhere. an auto looks like a letter D to a child whose name start with D. The colour red is not only "red apple" but ALL the red things around the child. The point is that the kids are learning all the time when they are experiencing - at home, during holidays - every time. In the "Water" project asawri dedied to use the holiday of 26th jan to visit Ranganatittu to see water birds - we learn even whne we are holidying - like a child who is learning to crawl does not stop till he learns to cralw and lok forwrad to walk and ......the lerning is endless. Kids at Arohi will experience learning as a part of them. They will learn ALWAYS.
Yes it looks overwhelming task for the person who is introduced to this way of working with Projects for the first time. Once you get used to - it looks easy and interesting. In my example of Asawri's story I told you that past 15days I did not do anything with her - and she herself came up with the planning of WATER project. That is the beauty of KIDS centric education - we empower them to be their own in charge of learning - not adult dependent learning.
In our experience this approach is completely driven by kids and Faculty role is there as a guide not as a teacher. Yes we need to design Modules in advance, find resource people and so on - we are working on this. have a look at the work done in past few months - http://geniekids.com/asa/
Yes as we said on our "COACHING LESS sports " - we suggest weekends to explore any hobby - driven by the child. Or initially let the chidle explore many hobbies and finally pursue one or two of her interest. We all will work together to find meaningful avenues for the child to develop her hobbies.
At Aarohi they will explore all the skills -and finally at home they pursue one or two which they get interested.
We will see as we go along
We follow NCERT curriculum frame work - have a look - http://geniekids.com/professionals/ncert-curriculam-guidelines
- Coacihng is coach driven - free play is ME driven
- Coacihng restrict the EXPLORATION (the child begin the sport with set of instructions) - free play allows you to be YOU
- Coaching is result oriented (did the child learn swimming or not) - free play is endless ( I may not learn swimming but I will be friendly with water and explore water with ease)
Later stage when a child has experimented with sports through free play - look for coaching if require. Look for coaching when the the child wants to learn from the coach not when you want child to LEARN a game.
And this true for all the hobbies - do not put child TOO soon in their life in any structured coaching/ classes.
Well this itsef is a learning - how to accept different kind of people. at least in this systems kids can express what do they think about different adults - they can give us feedback and we value their feedback - we improve ourselves, our faculty, resource team and parents.
The school has started with one child of 10yrs old
The parents will know each other - we will understand each other after initial hiccups. And we will learn along with kids how to ACCEPT the differences - the vital training we missed in our growing up years.
Yes initially form the same place and as we grow we look for another place - ALL together. anyway at Aarohi the amount of place is not imp - what is happenin inside the place is more important.
About Social Development
At Aarohi
The child will learn to make relationship with parents, adults and children of various ages not only his age. The child will also make relationship with the society directly - with the people by working with them, other children from various background and skills by understanding their life, And The child will learn HOW to ACCEPT people around him who different in skills, social background, nature and thoughts.
At Aarohi - the child will go to assembly (yoga, and morning routine) to enjoy, to be heard, to express. In the assembly the child will understand the meaning of "independence" by experiencing. The child will not go to independence assembly to stand for few hours, wait for it to get over and come back blank.
At Aarhoi
The child will choose his opportunity to socialize and go on stage which will be set up by him - He will design his own dance, drama, show, costume, marketing, light and music. Read how Asawari took part in A social programme where she worked with underprivileged children to celebrate Christmas. No santa came to our home school and distributed cookies - but she became and Santa celebrated Christmas. http://geniekids.com/asa/
At Aarohi
If the child get bullied he will empowered to SPEAK and FIND SOLUTION for his problems. Aarohi is child centric not child pampered.
At Aarohi
The child will run for his progress not necessarily to win from others but to win everyday from himself. The child will not run in front of the public but run privately to reach bigger goals.
If that is your concept of social development - join hands.
We cannot convince anyone but to present an alternate way of socializing. Aarohi will start small - but there are no hands so small that they cannot make difference in the world.

Once you do TTT/ OTT with geniekids you can re-attend any session any time with nay batch. There are no charges for you to re-attend. Check the schedule.
The perception is not totally incorrect - more so in today's world when just a graduate can earn much more through a call center :-(
Some schools like the international schools are supposed to have better remuneration packages. The packages in schools vary from 5K per month to 20K. The positive being that you get lots of and long holidays :-)))
Obviously if you run a school or a center of your own - then earning possibility increases and is then totally dependent on your financial goals.
However working in children in general gives more Flexibility and can be made into a job which is part time in nature - a lot of work with children can be tailored around your other family commitments - ideal for non working mothers - who want to be available to their children, yet do meaningful work.

As far as we're aware one does not need any university or govt. recognized certification to start a pre-primary school in India. However, do check this for your state (or country) by contacting the department of education of the government. You can also asking existing pre-schools if they have gone through any certification and what are the prerequisites for the same.
Let us also give you an example - the Montessori institutes also issue their own certificates - which is not certified by any university - and almost all states in India have Montessori schools - so its unlikely that there is any "requirement' by law to have certification.

Yes, technically you do not need to travel to Bangalore at all. Though at the end of the program we will have an optional one week's program at Bangalore where you can observe other faculty and also interact with us in person. Also if you want, you may want to do your first round of practicals of two weeks at our center under our guidance.
If you find the course not suitable for you - within the first few sessions (max 4) – we will cancel your registration, and keeping an amount of Rs1000/- refund the balance fee back to you.
If you need to suspend the course in the middle (after five or more sessions),
we will not refund you the fees,
but you can join back in the any of the future batches - adjusting the fees that you have paid now. You will however need to pay any difference of fees (when you rejoin the fuiture batch), as future batch may have a higher fees to it.
We do not have the program during school holidays? No classes during Christmas or Dushera holidays, or during common school declared single holidays. So, no problem.
Yes, you are always welcome. We offers many time options – full week, part time, part months, work from home etc – the options are endless. Once you finish your course, meet us, and we can together work out something mutually suitable. See details - working with geneikids at http://www.geniekids.com/content/working-geniekids
While we do not provide any placement – remember we do not consider this program as a job oriented course. However, we would gladly help you with all our guidance and references to help you get the desired placement.
Also we on a regular basis get requests from schools and other organisations for trained faculty. These details we email you promptly.
The certificate is given on successful completion of the program - which includes - classes, assignments and practicals. There is no exam. For us doing practical work with children is the exam.
Yes, you do – but – the certificate in itself does not carry much value or weight. Pl realise that this program is not designed to get you a certificate – but to give you a deep understanding and comprehensive learning.
This "learning" should get you the kind of job/ work / start you own - etc whatever you are looking for. None of the previous participants faced any difficulty in getting the kind of work they wanted or felt that the certificate should have more value. All the previous participants however, really valued the learning from the program.
Let us answer this question by telling you how the previous batch participants have used the training:
Some are working with schools as teachers, some have opened their own pre-schools or their own centers, some are working with NGOs, some are working part time with various organizations, some are working with geniekids, and finally some are simply using their learning with their own children.
The options are unlimited - from working part time to full time - from working from your home to going out, from directly working with children or doing backend (designing) work.
Geniekids itself is always interested in taking people who are committed to work with children.
According to us there is a constant demand of people who have both - passion and commitment to work with children. There is no dearth of work, there is dearth of committed individuals.
Simply put - the more effort you put in, the more you get out of the program. On an average, you will need to spend a minimum of about 3-5 hours every week to complete your assignments. However, remember each assignment is "open" and it purely depends on you how much time and effort you want to put in. More them merrier
Having access to computer with internet is a must. If you do not have one at home - you can either use a "reliable" cyber café close to your home. If you are in Bangalore - you can also use computers at Geniekids.
Computer knowledge is not a pre-requisite. However, a willingness to LEARN computers is. If you are willing, we will provide you with the required help.
There are many ways to "making up" for sessions missed:
1) The foremost being learning from your colleagues. This whole program is based on collaborative learning - and much learning happens because every participant shares their learning with each other. After the session you would get to read what each one of your peers learned from the session. Call your peers and discuss the whole session with them. You can also ask them questions in forums.
2) We can record session on request - you need to co-ordinate with your collegaues. Typically the recoring device is availabl at GK. Your collegue need sto remind the faculty of that day to record the session. You can hear the recording of the whole session.
3) You could also request one of your colleagues to take you through the session - we promote the concept of "study buddies".
4) You would also go through the entire relevant reading, do all the exercises, experiments and assignments. This would cover a lot of session too.
5) You can also discuss the session with the faculty (after having done alltof the above) - essentially you will clarify your doubts - this is best done through forums.
6) You can also attend (numbers permitting) the same session with the next batch of train the trainer (either classroom version or online version).
Regarding Video: We do not use video as this hogs the bandwidth and makes it difficult for many participants to receive the session properly (given that not everybody has good broadband connection and also our connections themselves vary in performance form day to day)
Also we have realized that video does not really add too much to session effectiveness - what really makes the online class interesting is the CHAT and that is what the people focus on - apart form the presentation and on screen annotations (being made by the faculty).
The online class is technically the same as any classroom group. Only difference is that we are physically apart, yet virtually together - hence while we can't see each other, we can hear, talk and interact with each other using chat.
There is a designated website (lets call it 'webclass') and a login and password given to you. 10-15 minutes before the time of the class you login into the webclass.
On the screen you can see the presentation, names of people who are already in the class and a chat window. You use your speakers to hear to the faculty (and other participants).
You use "chat" to post your questions and responses to the discussion. In case you don't want to type into the chat window or you have a something long to say - you use mic to talk. The faculty uses the annotations and the white board for collating all the the thoughts and highlighting certain matter.
only sufficient for the whole year but also suitable for all age groups
(2-5 years) and can even be extended for more than a year
Each activity can be done in one day or many days
How you do an activity is upto you !!!
Each
activity while primarily covers a particular set of objectives - can be
used to cover many objectives - which is what we call as integrated learning - which is how we work!
As humans we are are capable of learning five things at the same time.
that is why our activities and the way they are done
together lead children to interact with multiple concept areas at the same time.
for example while child is making a garland out of some shapes (and learning about them),
- the child can easily be made to also explore
- patterns,
- numbers,
- fine motor skills,
- social skills,
- vocabulary,
reading skills,- ... the list can go on ....
sheets????
there are no sheets???
atleast not as sheets
children do activities using different mediums
and wherever required they will use slate/ board/ paper/ sand/ charts/ etc to write, draw etc
i guess this is where training is required to understand the activity based approach
PreSchool FAQ (24)
We do not feed them or check their snack boxes - however we encourage them to eat by themselves by meaningful interactions.
A THOUGHT:
if a child is hungry - the child will eat (same for us).
Given this belief - i would ask why a child is not eating in the snack times?
can be many reasons - like
He is not hungry (has eaten enough breakfast - in which case there is no issue)
He is scared of something (is he too pressured about eating - that itself may stop children from eating)
Some stomach disorder (get it checked for worms etc)
He dosen;t like whats in the tiffen (involve him in filling stuff in his box)
and more
once we know the possible reason - we can act accordingly
if we do not know the reason, atleast we can try out different options by hit and trial.
You can know more about our preschool and the teaching methodology at - http://www.geniekids.com/preschool
Teacher student ratio is 1:12
For us ALL kids are different and we understand them at their level.
The best way to understand a school is to experience it. We invite you to observe a session in progress, as that would give you a first hand idea of how we work with children. read more http://www.geniekids.com/aboutkhoj
What is common amongst all our faculty is that all of them have gone though a four month long extensive training program called Train the trainer During the training they are exposed to various ways of working with children with emphasis on
* Understanding the child
* Understanding and exploring various ways of learning
* Understanding effective facilitation
At Geniekids, we all are here by choice, by passion to work with kids. We all come from various profession like computer engineer to pharmacist. It is our conscious decision to work with kids and we bring in lot of commitment, enthusiasm, learning and professionalism in whatever we do. Read about us at www.geniekids.com/aboutus
For Khoj Pre Primary School we request parents to visit the center with the child. Spend some time in the center. Talk to us and understand our approach. Also, if you want - come for an observation session - where you sit in a ongoing class and observe our process (observation can be offered to one of the parent without your child and needs to be for a minimum of two hours. Pl call us atleast 2-3 days in advance to book for observation)
And then do registration
A: Three Options for Registration
1. Visit our center - fill the form - pay via cash or cheque (no credit cards please)
2. We email you the form and you attach a cheque to the form and courier or hand deliver to us. Cheque in favour of GENIEKIDS
3. We email you the form and you email form back and simultaneously make bank to bank transfer (email us for bank details)
We do not expect the child to be completely toilet trained. The child can be at any level of toilet training - we accept the child at that level. We , ourselves do not toilet train. However, the best news is that children's toilet training gets accelerated because they see other children asking for toilet trip. Kids learn most things from other kids - and thats the big benefit of being in pre-school. In a group we have mixed children - some trained - some in the process of training - And they all learn from each other.
Whether you want to send your child in diapers or not is purely your decision. We would however insist that you send at least one change of clothes to take care of toilet misadventures. Do read our Care giver training document for more information. http://geniekids.com/content/care-taker-training-gk
We do not beleive in assessment. What we have is an observation based system of tracking the child.
This is done ins two parts.
First we have daily observation of the child which is entered byt he faculty (on a daily basis) and can be seen (only) by the parent from our website.
Secondly we have a monthly tracking system. Tracking is a visual representation of our observations of a child.
We work with 51 parameters based on the eight multiple intelligences. We note our observation on all of these parameters and assign a number to mark off our observations. This is done once a month (the first week of every month). Read more
http://www.geniekids.com/content/tracking-progress-your-child
No - we do not teach anything! But Yes we have loads of rhymes. Again rhymes are not done for the sake of rhymes. Rhymes are done because they have a specific role to play:
Mostly rhymes are either related
~ to the activity (eg: seed song when doing planting activity)
~ to classroom procedures (eg: before we eat, we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands)
~ to morning energizers and mind-body coordination games (eg: put your right hand in....)
See rhymes at http://www.geniekids.com/viewrhyme
Everything we do, we believe in doing it together. So all "events" are together events - children, parents and faculty all together. Hence we do not have the traditional annual day (where normally children present and parents watch) or sports day (where competition is the focus). What we have are Parent-child days (when both do activities together), Melas (which are extensive celebratory events with themes - focus being on exposure and enjoyment together) and various special days like independence day special, diwali special, game special week etc. Read more at http://www.geniekids.com/content/events-khoj
YES - we do. However we do not take children for field trips for the sake of field trips. The field trip is done when it is required by an activity (hence it does not have a prefixed periodicity. The field trip plays a specific role in the whole learning design and hence the kind and content of the field trip is purely driven by the activity. We also ask parents to accompany us for field trips.
NO - No traditional home work is NOT given
YES - We call it Fun work - because the idea is to have fun while doing small activities (parent & child) together. These are for you to have fun at home while extending the learning from activities done at Geniekids on daily basis. Each fun work is connected to the main activity of the day. The activity name is mentioned for your reference in the fun work list. Neither it is compulsory for you to do fun work everyday, nor there is any submission nor we are trying to assess the child through the fun work. Obviously the more you do the more the child learns. Read more about fun work at http://www.geniekids.com/khoj/funwork
Surely - Geniekids believes that greatest fun is when children are interested in what they are doing. So while we do not entertain your child, the activities and the process of learning followed by Geniekids is based on child enjoying the whole experience.
We motivate the child. Our activities take care of the involvement. An activity gives the child "a goal" so that they are excited in "doing" the activity and this involvement leads to their learning - including writing. SO the pushing is not required - the kids wants to DO everything - because they like doing it!
Children in class room are constantly reading and writing. Both reading and writing starts as soon as the child joins the geniekids (no matter what age). However please do not confuse their reading and writing as same as how we as adults experience it. A child scribbling his name is writing, through it may not legible to us.
What we believe is that both reading and writing (and for that matter everything they learn) need to me relevant to them. So they start with reading and writing stuff which is relevant to them. Hence rather than writing ABCD which is mere symbols and have no meaning in themselves per se, we would rather have the child write actual words which the child wants to write. So while the child's calligraphy of ABCD is not yet clear - the child is actually writing meaningful words and is falling in love with writing. The calligraphy will, because of daily writing meaningful words, over time automatically become clear. For more details on this - pl come and meet us
What parents say - I thought I must write to say thanks to you for the remarkable changes that I am seeing in Anoushka this year. Suddenly, she is busy writing (in fact wrote her name in less than half a minute!!), trying to read by herself and is generally exploring and experimenting a lot. - Mina Mother of Anoushka
Surely, the difference is not about "WHAT". Finally all children learn the same set of skills - say language, numerical, musical, fine and gross motor, social etc. Its about "HOW".
How your child will learn will be different from other schools. We work with 51 parameters (or objectives) of learning. Child may may not be able to exhibit each learning immediately, but as he progresses he will build, know and understand ALL concepts require for pre-school age. In fact we believe in our approach of child creating learning on his own rather than us teacher him or her.
This way the conceptual learning is far stronger, Child retains more and most importantly the child learns how to learn.
Over all the child is broadly at par with other children of his or her age.
What parents say -
Have not heard of any pre-school putting in so much effort and taking pre-schooling so seriously. Most of my friends who have shifted to other schools feel GK is either better or on-par with schools. Feel thats a great compliment for the team, considering the difference in availability of resources. Overall very satisfying and learning experience for both the parent and the child - Madhu mother of Rishikesh
Khoj does things differently from what other preschool programs do. And therein lies the difference. Kudos to all of you for taking pre-schooling to a different level! Some of the changes I have noticed since he started are - he is more social, he believes more in himself - he tries his hand at various things now, he expresses himself much better.- Santrupta - mother of Pranay
Our whole approach is based on two presumptions:
1. Each child is capable of learning on his or her own.
2. Each child is different, learns differently
Hence it does not make sense for us to have "one" system of learning. Why not have an open approach towards learning and let the child drive the whole learning process. At geniekids we do not follow any one system - we create rich exposures and experiences through activities. These activities are themselves based on multiple intelligences. We integrate various concepts and ensure all learning is CREATED by the child through child's own experience, interactions and thinking. See more details on of the curriculum on http://www.geniekids.com/khojcurriculum.
Yes, geniekids and you - parents - together prepare the child for the interview. Realize that preparing for the interview is less about the questions asked (the content) but more about the child's readiness to "answer" and "respond" in an interview environment.
KHOJ per school is till 6yrs - basically after this the child is ready to go to 1st standard. We cover all aspect in our curriculum to prepare the child to go to 1st standard.
However, if you wish you can withdraw the child any age before 6 years and can take admission in any other school. It would be great if you can inform us in advance. Also, let us know if the child is supposed to attend an interview in any school - about 2months in advance. We can then together (geniekids and you parents) use this time to prepare the child for the admission test or interview (wherever applicable).
We do not have any tie up with any school. We believe that THE PARENT should decide on the school based on your criteria. Read our article on selecting school http://geniekids.com/pa/bestschool
However, let us know if the child is supposed to attend an interview in any school - about 2months in advance. We can then together (geniekids and you parents) use this time to prepare the child for the admission test or interview (wherever applicable).
We value every single feedback given to us. If we are not able to give time to you due to our involvement in the program – please send us a mail – we will surely respond. Or call us during working hours.
Or give us directly on our website http://geniekids.com/webforms/feedback-children-program
is NOT IMPORTANT.
Khoj Funwork FAQ (10)
You can definitely co-create. Just ensure that you do not end up doing what the child could be wanting to do or doing it your way rather than the way child could be wanting to do. However many a times - to get the initial enthu - its a great idea to co-create.
So we recommend - Start with co-creation - end with each making with own ideas and efforts.
If you enjoyed doing an activity or played a game or did anything together, you could share your ideas with us, we could probably include it with a relevant activity. We love ideas that come from parents and which worked for you - remember you both should have enjoyed the activity - that is the only criterion!
Every week has the option of 5 fun works (connected to 5 activities) to be done during the week. You could choose any funwork (one or more) from that. You could also include something that child did at home even if it is not related to the weeks activity. There are no fixed rules - the idea is to do lot of fun activities at home and make our time with children value added.
Fun work can be shared with friends and faculty every Monday. There is no submition or scrutinization of Funwork. We neither assess it, not give any comments it - we ACCEPT it the way it has been brought.
Rather than the work tiself, We talk about the experience the child had in doing it - that to us is more important.
Sometimes the faculty writes the responses of the children, any comments or appreciation given by other children on the Funwork. Sometimes we even record what the child told about the work. All of this is a mere record and should be seen or sought as feedback.
Please realise these comments are not of faculty's - we refrain from giving our own comments.
Give child options - if not this activity, some other funwork. Or you could get back to child whenever he/she id ready. Or - just leave it - funwork is supposed to be fun - not a "punishment", please wait for the child to be physically and mentally ready for it.
I think you do not need to guide her - she will realize/ learn/ discover on her. What you can do is stop and restart (another time) when she is ready.
Last year one child was NOT interested in coloring and he would just close the fun book. Without me doing any efforts for coloring, this year he is showing a lot of interest in coloring. Last year when he would close the fun book without colouring - the parent would not force him to learn coloring and would accept his closing of the book. Sometimes the paretn too will close the book, sometimes the paretn will just colour whatever she wants.
Realise this frustration is core process of child's learning - so lets let them learn on their own:)
Part of frustration arises due to children not having the requisite skill and hence not able to "match" up with your results. An interesting way to do work with children is to do at similar level of skills - i.e with some constraint.
For example you draw with your left hand or with your thumb and palm (no fingers). That way skills wise you are at par with the child.
In some ways, you learn too, this way - and its more 'fun'.
The Fun work lists out small activities which are connected to the daily activity. Theses are listed out for you to have fun together at home while extending the learning from the activities on a daily basis. The name of the activity is mentioned in the fun work for your reference.
Fun work is having fun together - so child does what he or she can do and you do what you want to or need to do! So no formula - only one objective - enjoy it together!
Funwork is having fun together - so child does what he or she can do and you do what you want to or need to do! So no formula, no teacheing, no explicit demonstration - a kind of this-is-how-you-do-it.
Only one objective - enjoy it together! So you do for your own nejoyment and child does - whatever - for his or her enjoyment - check out the name its FUNwork.
Some of the Fun work activities may not require a book, like the one mentioned. In such cases you could simply write your experiences about the particular activity and how you enjoyed it together.
Success Saturday FAQ (15)
You can join Success Saturday programme in between also. Every session is different and not in continuation with the previous one so the child is not lost in the session. However the child does those many less sessions.
Child can start new session next year - the concept remains same but the activities changes - so the child revisits the concept with a new perspective. There are children who are doing SS for last three two years, three years - and every year it is different for them.
Registration cannot be changes midweek with another program. All programs work on weekly modules - hence for one week the child can come only in the registered program. Changing program makes no sense to the child - as well as disrupts the group dynamics of the other group.

into the activities after an absent day.
Also you can check session report. The session write up is updated within 24 hours on the website. Please click on session write up under the program pages. Choose the program and group to see the writeup.
Only some snacks and a water bottle. Please do not send any material or
any toy with the child. Also ensure that the child wears simple daily
wear clothes – as they are bound to “dirty” their hands in colours, glue, clay
etc.

First realise that the classes are only twice a week. So whatever arrangement you need to make - will be required only for two days a week. You can also get your child dropped to geniekids – and the child will wait here – till you finish your class – then both can leave together. A care giver at Geniekids will take care fo your child during this time interval. We will charge you a nominal charge - chcek at the reception.
If you want, you can bring your baby to the center along with a caregiver of yours. Your baby and your caregiver can both stay in the premises (in another room) while you attend the class. This way in class you will be mentally at peace, yet can also attend to the child in case an exigency arises.
Let us also give you an example - the Montessori institutes also issue their own certificates - which is not certified by any university - and almost all states in India have Montessori schools - so its unlikely that there is any "requirement' by law to have certification.
Sure - anybody is welcome to contribute any content.

Wonder Years FAQ (5)
Most importantly the team that executes the program is the one who designs it. They bring deep understanding of the activity and flexibility in executing the same.
We also do monthly in-house training programs. Apart from that reading and research is the ethos of geniekids way of working. Unless we are continuously learning, how can we facilitate learning in others!
What is common amongst all our faculty is that all of them have gone though a four month long extensive training program called Train the trainer During the training they are exposed to various ways of working with children with emphasis on
* Understanding the child
* Understanding and exploring various ways of learning
* Understanding effective facilitation
Young Champs FAQ (11)

We value every single feedback given to us. If we are not able to give time to you due to our involvement in the program – please send us a mail – we will surely respond. Or call us during working hours.
Or give us directly on our website http://geniekids.com/webforms/feedback-children-program
is NOT IMPORTANT.
