Success Saturday Example Activity

Example Activity

Objective: Awareness of Assertive, passive & aggressive Behavioour
Multiple Intelligence: Intrapersonal & Musical
Experiences - Story, Soap Bubbles & Music

The Activity Set:
First children make a soap bubble maker (out of wires) then we test it out.
We focus on the fact that if
~ we blow hard the bubble doesn't get formed
~ we blow too soft then also bubble doesn't get blown
~ we blow firmly yet gently - a bubble is formed

This analogy is then related to how we often behave. we watch a small film in which we try and identify blow soft (passive), blow hard (aggressive) and blow firm (assertive).

Now facilitator tells a story in which there are assertive, passive and aggressive responses by the characters.
Children blow the bubbles according to the response in the story

As a further reflection, children are now given musical instruments to give background music to the another story. The background music follows the situations in the story.

Finally children document and or relate some of their own behaviors which will fall into each category. This can be done by writing down, acting out or drawing.

Parent Note:
It is good to learn from stories. One can see the results of a certain behaviour directly and this could help one take a few leaning from others experiences. So telling children stories / real life incidents could make them richer. However, when children ponder over consequences of their own behaviours, that's even better learning. Invite them to think and discuss this.
